Street fronts near the centre and Camelon
Honey sandstone ashlar, bay windows and shared closes still define many blocks between the High Street core and Camelon. Upper flats share a wall face with neighbours; changing one opening changes the rhythm of the whole elevation. A survey looks at reveal depth, cill projection and how much of the original stone surround will remain visible.
Later alterations — painted stone, patched harling, previous frames already replaced — matter as much as the original drawing. This article does not invent conservation rules or warrant requirements. The surveyor confirms what that property needs.
Keeping the front looking right
Sightlines from the pavement, the proportion of glass to frame, and the colour against the sandstone all affect whether a replacement reads as careful or clumsy. Inside, room use and condensation risk still count.
